Unique interpretation center of maritime heritage of island Krk
Opis
The exhibition presents a historical overview of the seafaring of the island of Krk, from the late antique period, prominent hydroarchaeological sites, through the medieval development of seafaring on the island of Krk, the emergence of steamships, until the middle of the twentieth century. The exhibition part of the space contains interpretation panels with a historical overview of the maritime development of the island of Krk, grouped by topics. The central part displays the collected material and models from the collection and workshop of Željko Skomeršić, including various useful objects, documents, equipment from ships, tools, records, books and photographs. The anteroom of the model shop is dedicated to education about the process of vessel creation. There is also a children's drawing table, since the idea is to encourage even the youngest visitors to express themselves artistically and draw a ship according to their idea after a tour and contact with the modeller. Also, the space has been provided with multimedia content, namely a didactic application with sailing simulation and the projection of photos or videos of regattas of traditional vessels and sailors' meetings. The centre is especially enriched with beautiful objects such as models of Krk's traditional and other sailing ships, everyday objects for fishing, shipbuilding tools and nautical instruments. In the centre, the visitor can see some of the oldest editions of maritime literature, old nautical charts, atlases and manuals on navigation, etc. After visiting the permanent exhibition, in the ship modelling workshop, you can get useful information about the types and ways of making ship models, as well as more detailed explanations of the topics presented in the permanent exhibition.
