Prirodni fenomen: Pejzažno-estetska vrijednost područja, bujna vegetacija brucijskog i alepskog bora, cedrova, čempresa i autohtone makije hrasta crnike, razvedenost obale s brojnim otocima, hridima, uvalama i rtovima.
Zaštita se provodi na svim naseljenim i nenaseljenim otocima, kao na užem priobalnom području oko 500 m od obale, zavisno od konfiguracije terena od Rta Sv.Ivana kod ulaza u Limski kanal do Barbarige, izuzimajući područje grada Rovinja od rampe na željezničkoj pruzi do ruba šume Monte Mulini. U nastavku slijedi popis rovinjskih otoka od sjevera prema jugu, a obuhvaćeni su svi otoci, otočići, hridi ili grebeni: otok Figarola (22.572 m2), hrid Figarolica, otok Sv. Katarina (129.789 m2), otok Banjol, piopularno “Sedam dlaka” (7.240 m2), hrid Muntrav, otok Samer, Magareći otok ili “Otok ljubavi” (4.560 m2), (ex Crveni otok) – Sv. Andrija i Maškin (233.429 m2), otok Sturag (22.269 m2), otok Sv. Ivan na pučini (88.737 m2), hrid Sv. Ivana na pučini (svjetionik-lanterna) (7.093 m2), hrid Veliki (6.236 m2) i Mali (4.014 m2) Piruzi, otok Pulari (15.002 m2), hrid Revera (8.323 m2), otok Veštar (17.138 m2), otok Dvije sestrice – Mala (21.918 m2) i Velika (49.101 m2), otok Pisulj (3.453 m2), otok Guštinja (5.467 m2).
Rovinjski arhipelag po gornjem popisu ima ima 14 otoka i 6 hridi, ukoliko se Dvije sestrice normalno računaju kao dva otoka, a da se metodloški ex- Crveni otok podijeli na Sv. Andriju i Maškin.
